1. Tales from the Trips (Latest News)
===============================================
It is hard to believe that 2008 is coming to an end already. Didn’t this year just start?

This Thanksgiving I got to visit my framily (friends that are family) and we always give thanks for the many blessings throughout the year.

However, on the way home I realized that I wanted to take a minute to Thank YOU for being a subscriber and for all your support, feedback, ideas, and product or service purchases over the past year.

I don’t know about you but I love the holiday season because of the goodwill it can generate and I hope you will remember to consider those who need your help.

Recently it seems like many people are frenzied over the holidays. So, I have started a series on the Ark Animals blog called the “Season of Giving” to urge people to consider gift giving in ways that will help animals.

The first post appeared on December 1st and concerns WALOP (We All Love Our Pets) a program that works with the Meals of Wheels programs throughout the nation.

If you have not visited the blog for a while you can find the post on the front page for a couple of days or when you have a moment just click into the December 2008 Archives.

In closing, I want to wish you a great holiday season and a Happy New Year. You haven’t heard the last of me yet as I plan to drop you a special edition with gift suggestions soon—so keep an eye out for it.

Until next month or the next blog post…Happy Tails!

2. Discussion for the Month: Pet Foreclosure Victims
===============================================
I’ve been hearing more about pet foreclosure victims—those animals who were abandoned or relinquished due to the current mortgage crisis.

Although I first wrote about this back in September of 2007 the problem has escalated. Most people are shaking their heads over the matter but I wanted to make a few suggestions and ask a few questions.

If you are like most people you know of someone who has lost their home. Have you asked yourself it there is a way you can help those animals?

People don’t always consider steps they can take to help so I wanted to plant a few ideas for you to ponder and that will motivate you to hopefully take action or at least spark discussion with others about actions to take.

Can you temporarily foster an animal for someone?
Perhaps you can help a friend or neighbor. Or maybe you have a local shelter that is hoping to help more people facing the loss of not only their home but also their beloved furry family members. By fostering a pet you can provide peace of mind and be of great service to those in need. Consider doing it.

Can you donate your time or funds to help a homeless pet?
Many shelters are holding onto pets for those who have lost their homes and so are housing them for an undetermined amount of time. Check to see if you can donate funds to help provide for the care of one or more of these animals. Perhaps you can volunteer your time to help exercise the additional animals being sheltered during this crisis.

Can you help shelters to develop pet resumes or provide recommendations & advocacy?
Some shelters are helping people get into rentals with their help and referrals. Pet resumes (which include all the ways pets are good tenants–well mannered, house trained, friendly, quiet) can help. If you are a realtor or a writer—volunteer your services or ask how you can help get these people and animals into new homes.

If you have any other suggestions or have a unique story of ways your local community is helping pet foreclosure victims please drop me a line and let me know about them.
