Guerrero Conducts Pet Blessing at Fawnskin Festival
Fawnskin,
CA
Who
would guess that the tiny town of Fawnskin, California would have
the distinction of launching the shortest parade in the United States?
The sleepy town located at the edge of the San Bernardino forest
is the home of many celebrity residents.
William Sarabande, Shirley Jones and others contribute to the whopping 380 population figure. The one block town is known for many things, including the infamous Doo Dah Parade. Launched in 1976, the Doo Dah parade began with one entrant. The silly collection of entries draws a large audience and is part of the annual Old Miners Days celebrations held throughout the Big Bear Valley.
This year the parade celebrities included local author, Diana L. Guerrero and the other "Shady Ladies of the Big Bear Moose." Each took a lampshade and created their own statements--meandering along the parade route while accompanied by a song written for the occasion. The group won the first place trophy for their inspired efforts.
After the parade, spectators walked to the Loggers Jubilee and many stuck around for the famous Moose Lodge BBQ. Diana L. Guerrero said, "This weekend is full of fun and camaraderie. The town is very small and tight knit and attracts a variety of characters--the number of spectators and visitors increases every year."
Guerrero was also present for the Fawnskin Festival on Sunday. She conducted an animal blessing and discussed pet disaster preparedness. Guerrero is the author of What Animals Can Teach Us about Spirituality and the upcoming release titled, Blessing of the Animals. She is also an animal disaster preparedness expert.
Noel Blanc, son of Mel Blanc of Warner Brothers fame also participated. The Third Annual celebration highlights included the Blessing of the Animals, the Precious Pet competition and a variety of vendors, entertainers, and notables.
