Monrovia, CA
Monrovia Arts Festival Association (MAFA) presented its 38th annual juried fine arts festival on October 9th & 10th 2004 at the Monrovia Library Park located in the heart of downtown Monrovia. This annual two day arts festival was designed as a family celebration to encourage the production and appreciation of the arts in Monrovia, as well as to support the art programs in the Monrovia schools.

Over 100 fine artists displayed, demonstrated and sold their artwork. Painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, woodcarving, jewelry, textiles, glass and many other artistic mediums were featured.

Author Diana L. Guerrero joined Cristobal Ceramic Designs at booth #7. Cristobal is well known for his fabulous mask works and as the artist for Ms. Guerrero's fabulous chapeaus! His hats have achieved notoriety at the annual Book Expo America--each year he designs another unique hat for Guerrero's book promotions. He is currently in discussions regarding a feature cable episode about his work!

The event featured a silent auction with a rich selection of fine arts donated by the participating artists. Money raised from the auction is used to support arts in the local schools. School arts created by students participating in the MAFA supported after-school arts program (ASAP) were also on display.

MAFA is a volunteer run non-profit organization. The arts festival, like all other MAFA events, benefits local schools' art programs. The state budget crisis continues to reduce funding for local schools and art education. MAFA is attempting to bring cultural enrichment to their community through the arts. (In 2003, MAFA donated $10,000 to Monrovia public schools.)

MAFA is seeking volunteers and donations. To assist or donate visit www.artfestivals.org or write to MonroviaArtsFest@verizon.net.
