Resources for Crisis Management for Zoos & Other Animal Care Facilities Volume I
(American Association of Zoo Keepers)
Guerrero Assists with
Animal Crisis Management Book Project
Topeka, KSEver wonder if animal facilities have emergency plans to help save their animals from an impending disaster? Some do, but many don't. There is now a resource book available on this topic to the Zoological Parks & Aquariums across the United States. The book is a compilation of case studies, strategic tips, resources, and a variety of valuable information related to both natural and man-made disasters. Exotic & domestic animal behavior consultant, Diana Guerrero is a contributor and co-editor on the book project.
Guerrero feels the book is a very important one; "Historically this is an overlooked area of planning for many communities and animal facilities. This book will be a valuable resource and hopefully assist us in preventing our arks housing endangered species from sinking."
The project was one that was prompted through Guerrero's suggestions. "First, it was an article that was going to be submitted to one of the professional zoological journals, suddenly was suggested we consider expanding it into a dedicated issue, then into a resource notebook--and now a book. The American Association of Zoo keepers has always been a progressive group and I am thrilled they have decided to pick up the project."
Resources for Crisis Management In Zoos and Other Animal Care Facilities (ISBN 1929672020) was published in October of 1999. For further information contact the American Association of Zoo keepers at 1-800-242-4519.
